Far away ... but never alone

Marsha Ambrosius did a very courageous thing in Urban music, she wrote a song about a Gay man, and how he ended his life because of the prejudice he faced from others in his community. This is brave because issues of homosexuality aren't really discussed in this genre of music. In fact its almost treated like it doesn't exist, or used as an insult in Rap music. When you first hear the lyrics in the song, you would think that shes talking about a lost love, but when you get to the end its clear shes talking about someone she loved, and is no longer living. Marsha had said that she wrote this song because one of her own friends (who was Gay) had taken his life. Through her pain over losing a close friend, Marsha may have helped to make things better for thousands of individuals
Whats important is that we as LGTB individuals realize that we are never alone! That there is always someone out there who can help us, even if its only to talk. It's important to find people who can be positive influences in your life (Gay or Straight). Who can support you, your lifestyle and who are not judgmental. For those who are introverted, and believe that they can handle any problem by themselves, please do not be afraid to reach out to someone! You may be surprised. I tend to do alot of praying, and it helps, but sometimes I need to ask for help from others.

The most striking image for me in this video, was the image of the American flag waving in the wind as the man (portraying the Gay man) was being assaulted. The American flag is supposed to represent freedom, but its obvious that not everyone is allowed to truly be free and be themselves (in the land of the free). Those who do, face problems from others in their community.
